Introducing GLBT literature to the community

I have had the experience of reading a book about a gay young man named Paul. This book is called Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan I found this book to be a good read and something that should be presented in a high school setting. This book was about Paul and how he had a crush on a boy named Noah. One thing that I did like about this book was how everyone in his town was so accepting of people being gay or trans gendered. I feel that this book can be seen as a bean of light for someone who is gay. It is telling that person that their can be a life where everyone is treated equally. I had never read or heard a book about the gay community before. I feel that as a future educator our society needs to be more acceptive towards this life style. David Levithan said " Being Gay is not an issue its a fact". I find this quote to be very true you shouldn't judge people based off of their sexual orientation. I find the G.L.B.T. (Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Trans gender) community to be considered multicultural literature; I have realized that their are not a lot of multicultural literature displayed in book stores and an libraries. This book really open up my eyes to how the G.L.B.T. community is presented in society and how they are viewed. I will display these types of books in my class room because I have a gay family member and I understand how hard it is to live in a world that is Heterosexually based.
